Frozen Shoulders
Frozen Shoulder Syndrome is a condition in which a severe and immense pain and stiffness is felt in the shoulders. It lasts for an average period of 30 months. No treatment as surgery or injections has been successful in curing the disease. The patient suffers immense pain when he or she moves the joint. The frozen shoulder suffers a loss of motion in the joint. With a doctor’s help the patient is able to move his or her arm. A frozen shoulder results in a burning sensation, thickening or shrinkage of the capsule that surrounds the shoulder joint. An injury or not less movement or no use of the arm can lead to a frozen shoulder.
Frozen shoulders occur more often in people suffering from diabetes, chronic inflammatory arthritis chest or breast surgery. A frozen shoulder is diagnosed after examination in which the shoulder shows limited movement or when the patient feels pain when the arm is moved. The history of the patient along with the blood testing and x-ray is examined. The treatment of a frozen shoulder usually requires a combination of anti-inflammatory medication, cortisone injections into the shoulder and physical therapy. Without these treatments a frozen shoulder can be permanent. A physical therapy can take months to recover the patient. A physical therapy can include ultrasound, electric stimulation, the use of ice packs a lot of exercises for strengthen of the arm and shoulder.
Exercises:
It is very important for a person suffering from frozen shoulders to avoid reinsuring the shoulder tissues during the period of the treatment. Sudden jerks, or movements or actions involving heavy object lifting should be avoided. Some frozen treatments are not very likely to be treated or recovered soon hence they require surgery or manipulation of the scarred shoulder. Manipulation is performed to physically break down the scar tissue of the joint capsule. But it has the risk of breaking the arm bone also known as the humerus fracture. It is very important for the patients to undergo manipulation and after wards do and follow up with the exercises recommended. Only after this would the shoulder have easy mobility and the pain and stiffness would be reduced and eventually gone.
